A positive confirmation of H5N1 virus (bird Flu) in ducks at Sukhna Lake Chandigarh was intimated by Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries (DADF), Govt. of India, Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi on 17/12/2014 after investigation report submitted by National Institute of high Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) Bhopal in the sample of one of the dead ducks. On the directions of Ministry of Agriculture, DADF, the Chandigarh Administration undertook first / unique operation on Island at Sukhan Lake at night upto 11.45 P.M. successfully. The operation was conducted in record time of 11 hours after receipt of confirmation report from Govt. of India, New Delhi.
